Sleeping Bear Dunes: #2 Best Non-Ocean Beach Destination

Yahoo! Travel decided to evaluate a few beach destinations across the United States, but there are no ocean beaches in the mix. Sleeping Bear Dunes earned the number two spot on the list. The other beach contenders are quite different from the large, northern freshwater body where Sleeping Bear Dunes is located. The other Top 4 are located in the west with one located in Canada. One winner is not actually a beach; it is a colossal indoor pool. Here are the winners:

#5: Lake Powell is located in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in Utah with over 186 miles of sandy beach and it is surrounded by red canyon rock cliff.

Watch the Yahoo! Travel video announcing the Top 5. We are curious about what you think after watching this…”watery fun” news story.

But…Our beloved Sleeping Bear Dunes, although named #2, will always be #1 to us!

The Homestead is located in the heart of Sleeping Bear Dunes country. The National Park resides to the north and south of The Homestead with the Crystal River flowing through both the resort and the National Park. Both have miles of shoreline on beautiful Lake Michigan with views of the Manitou Islands.
