Things To Do

In Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

In many ways, little has changed since the Ojibway named this area “Leelanau,” meaning “land of delight.” The pace is still relaxed. The lifestyle is still casual. The beaches are still wide, the bay and dunes are still spectacular. The activities – some relaxed, some intense – are still many.

What makes many of the activities unique is our setting. The beaches, dunes, river and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore simply aren’t available elsewhere. They are well suited to swimming, walking, hiking, climbing, riding, fishing, kayaking, and sightseeing. Together they are a living laboratory for birding, wildlife sighting and all manners of nature walks, including dark skies and northern lights.

For the more adventuresome, hang gliding, kite surfing and scuba diving offer summer challenges much as skiing, riding and snowshoeing offer winter challenges. Click on the list to explore your choices.
