MyNorth Wedding: The Homestead, Glen Arbor
There is a hint of romantic destiny in a story Dan and Karyn like to tell. While they both grew up summering at family cottages on Glen Lake in Leelanau County, they didn't meet until the summer after high school-though their great grandparents knew each other well enough to flick their porch lights "good night" to each other from across the Glen Lake. Eventually, their grandmothers introduced the two. The rest is a love story that was sealed at The Homestead's mountain top amphitheater with its drop-away view of Lake Michigan on one side and its Glen Lake panorama on the other.

Fairy-tale Weddings, Magical Settings at The Homestead
It's been 17 years since I lived on Lake Street in Glen Arbor and cross-country skied to work at The Homestead. Since then, my career path has meandered almost as much as the Crystal River. And, though I moved just 25 driving minutes southeast of the resort, seven years have passed since I've visited The Homestead’s property to listen to musician friends perform at the former Whiskers pub (now Beppi's).

So, you could say I was unprepared for what greeted me when I recently returned to tour the resort grounds. More than 70 upgrades have enhanced the property and doubled the staff size since I skated across a Village pond on my lunch hour in the early 1990s.

Summer Up North - Sophisticated Living
Before the advent of in-car entertainment systems, bored youngsters resorted to annoying their siblings, watching the scenery and playing the license plate game, among other low-tech diversions. Looking back at our annual trips South, I remembered how license plates from Michigan always seemed to outnumber those from anywhere else, leaving me to wonder if the entire state went south for the summer. After discovering the Leelanau Peninsula and a little slice of heaven known as Glen Arbor, I can only surmise that the seasonal influx of Louisvillians and other southerners run them off!

Pelz Golf Brings Short Game School to The Homestead
"Hey, now that was a golf shot!" I grin. I'm shameless. I crave this praise. I did not know how hard I would have to work for it.

I am nearing the end of the first three-day Dave Pelz Scoring Game School in Michigan and I have had to re-learn all my short shots. I have put in hours in the bunkers, on the putting green, and on the range.
