Health & Fitness Classes

Circuit Training

This class combines aerobic and strength elements with one-on-one training. It is just the right change of pace for aerobic and strength training enthusiasts. It’s also appealing for brand new or older participants who are reluctant to line up with more experienced participants in front of the mirrors. Circuit training is an effective way to develop both strength and cardiovascular fitness simultaneously. A circuit session consists of a series of exercises or stations performed in success with minimal rest intervals in between. It is designed to be easy to follow and targets fat loss, muscle building and heart fitness.

Beginning Yoga at Spa Amira

During the summer our yoga classes are held at beautiful Spa Amira which is located on a bluff with a stunning view of Lake Michigan and the Manitou Islands. The environment is tranquil and scenic, a perfect place for yoga.

This class focuses on alignment and moving between poses wtih control and proper breathing. Strengthen your body and your concentration while stretching and releasing stress. Class benefits include body awareness, increased balance, flexibility and strength. Mats are provided.

Private groups of up to 12 people can be booked for $150.00 per session. For individual, couple, small group, in-room or in-house sessions call New Leaf Health & Fitness at 231.334.5160 to schedule a private yoga session.

Yoga with Weights

This innovative new course combines the serenity of yoga with the challenge of strength training. The yoga poses will enhance flexibility, balance and body awareness, while the addition of light weights will lengthen and strengthen the muscles. The combination leads to a newfound grace and ease of movement sure to enhance both everyday quality of life and other athletic activities. It also sculpts lean, toned bodies without excess bulk and is suitable for people of all ages and experience levels.

Participants may choose to bring their own ankle weights or 3-5 pound hand weights.

Zumba

Want to get in shape, but can’t stand endless hours on the treadmill?  Try Zumba®, a fusion of Latin dance with innovative strengthening and cardiovascular techniques.  Classes feature alternating fast and slow rhythms, combined with easy-to-follow movements that will improve your endurance, strength, and agility.  Come to Zumba® – you’ll look good and have fun!

Tai Chi

Sometimes described as meditation in motion, tai chi promotes serenity through gentle movements – connecting the mind and body.  Originally developed in ancient China for self-defense, tai chi evolved into a graceful form of exercise that’s now used for stress reduction and to help with a variety of other health conditions.  Tai chi is a non-competitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching.  Tai chi consists of a series of postures or movements performed in a slow, graceful manner.  Each posture flows into the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion.  It’s gentle and suitable for everyone.
