January 7 - February 25, 2012

NASTAR (National Standard Race) is a ski racing program with a handicap system that allows racers of all ages and abilities to compare themselves to one another regardless of when or where they race. Race results are posted daily at www.nastar.com. Register at NASTAR.com and sign up on the day of the race at the ski school. Two Runs $6, Unlimited Runs $10, NASTAR Season Pass $99 Includes unlimited racing and weekly racing clinics. Call the ski school for information at 231.334.5555.

Enjoy $5 drinks and $5 appetizers at Nonna's. Nonna's is located in The Village next to Cavanaugh's Deli & General Store. Regular seasonal hours Thursday through Saturday, 5pm to 7pm. Holiday Week hours (December 26 - January 1st)  from 5pm to 10pm. New Year's Eve, 5pm to 11pm.

Winter Trails Day is in its 18th year nation wide. The program is designed to give children and adults new to snow sports the chance to try snowshoeing and cross-country skiing for free, and to discover the great fitness and social benefits of these easy-to-learn winter sports. The Homestead offers a two-hour group lesson for each sport. The group will travel into the beautiful Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore on the Bay View Trail that adjoins The Homestead property.

The program includes a national park pass, equipment overview, instructions on how to dress warmly and fundamentals on cross-country skiing and/or snowshoeing. Cross-country lessons begin at 10:00 am and snowshoeing lessons at 1:30 pm. For more information visit WinterTrails or call The Homestead at 231-334-5000. The program is free. January 7 - March 3, 2012

The Homestead is pleased to announce our Winter 2012 Cooking School at Nonna's Loft that is open to resort guests, members and the public. Executive Chef John Piombo will provide instruction in two types of classes: demonstrations and hand-on cooking classes. Cooking demonstrations provide participants with the opportunity to observe Chef Piombo prepare various dishes, take notes, taste the prepared dishes and receive a written recipe. Hands-on cooking classes provide participants with the opportunity to actually prepare recipes from start to finish. At the conclusion of the class, participants join Chef at the Captain's Table to enjoy the food they prepared.

Both types of classes are held on Saturdays at 11:30am at Nonna's Loft. Demonstration classes are limited to 20 participants at a cost are $50 (plus tax & gratuity) per person. Reservations and advance payment are required at least 24 hours in advance of the class date. Hands-on cooking classes are are limited to seven participants at a cost of $90 (plus tax & gratuity) per person. Reservations and advance payment are required at least 48 hours in advance. Glen Arbor Art Association presents an exhibition of local artists from Michigan’s wine country to kick off the the Leelanau Peninsula Vintner's Association's "Taste the Passion" weekend. This special winter event features original art, wine tasting from local wineries and a small plates menu created by Chef John Piombo of Nonna's. Art from Michigan's Wine Country will feature an exhibit and sale or original art by Leelanau artists with proceeds benefitting the Glen Arbor Art Association's scholarship program and GAAA's after school art classes.
 
The exhibit is located at Mountain Flowers Lodge at The Homestead. Exhibition hours are 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Cost: $20 per person advance purchase or $25 at the door, which which includes one glass of wine and food stations with delectable small plates.
